R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, For more than 35 years, Nancy Boston of Bell County |
|
has served as a leader in the Texas Republican Party, and her |
|
steadfast efforts have earned her the respect and admiration of |
|
many people; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Boston first became involved in grassroots |
|
politics in the 1970s, when she began volunteering as a poll watcher |
|
and campaign worker; after accepting a friend's invitation to a |
|
meeting of the Central Texas Republican Women, she became an |
|
instrumental member of the group, serving in several offices, |
|
including that of president; she participated in numerous |
|
conventions, workshops, and seminars of the Texas and National |
|
Federations of Republican Women and was accorded the TFRW's |
|
Outstanding Republican Woman Award in 1989; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since 1981, this dynamic Texan has attended the |
|
party's precinct and county conventions, along with Republican |
|
National Conventions and summits for the Republican Party of Texas; |
|
in 1998 and 2000, she was elected to two-year terms on the State |
|
Republican Executive Committee, the governing body of the RPT, and |
|
she was elected in 1990 as county chair, a position she continues to |
|
hold today; she has enjoyed a long tenure as county chair liaison |
|
for the board of the TFRW and also served as vice president of the |
|
Texas Republican County Chairmen's Association; in addition, she |
|
has conducted training seminars and get-out-the-vote projects and |
|
traveled out of state to take part in strike forces; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1995, Ms. Boston was appointed by Governor George |
|
W. Bush to the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners, and in 1998, |
|
she was named to the Central Texas Council of Governments Criminal |
|
Justice Advisory Committee; she serves her community today as a |
|
member of the Rotary Club of Killeen Heights, the women's |
|
auxiliaries of the VFW and the American Legion, and the Temple, |
|
Belton Area, and Greater Killeen Chambers of Commerce; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Bell County, Ms. Boston studied |
|
at Temple College and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor; she and |
|
her husband, A. C. Boston, own and operate Boston Properties and |
|
have been involved in commercial and residential development, |
|
construction, and property management for more than 40 years; and |
|
WHEREAS, Nancy Boston has devoted her considerable energies |
|
to supporting conservative ideals throughout the state and nation, |
|
and in so doing, she has set an outstanding example of civic |
|
engagement; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Nancy Boston for her longtime political |
|
activism and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
success and happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Boston as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
