R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Autism Society of Central Texas is celebrating
  its 25th anniversary in 2015; and
         WHEREAS, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  estimates that 1 in 68 children in the United States has been
  diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder; autism is a neurological,
  developmental disorder that impacts speech, sensory processing,
  and social and emotional behavior; because the depth and severity
  of symptoms may vary, no two people with autism are alike, and early
  intervention and treatment are shown to greatly improve long-term
  outcomes for affected individuals; and
         WHEREAS, A local affiliate of the Autism Society of America,
  the Autism Society of Central Texas is considered to be the oldest
  grassroots autism organization in the state; the group is dedicated
  to supporting and enhancing the quality of life for children and
  adults with autism and their families in a 24-county area, and
  support services provided by the organization include education and
  information, referrals, and recreational opportunities; and
         WHEREAS, ASCT receives an average of 44 calls every month
  from families looking for help in navigating their treatment
  options; additional assistance is offered by the society's online
  resource guide, and it sponsors monthly get-togethers throughout
  Central Texas where clients can meet face-to-face to encourage one
  another and share stories and advice; and
         WHEREAS, For the past quarter-century, the Autism Society of
  Central Texas has been a vital source of support and hope for
  countless Texans, and this special milestone in its history
  provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the life-changing role
  that it continues to play in the area's autism community; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Autism Society of Central Texas on the
  occasion of its 25th anniversary and extend to all those associated
  with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success
  with their important work; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Autism Society of Central Texas as an expression of
  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
