R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Paul Beard of Port Arthur has long dedicated himself |
|
|
to the betterment of his community, and his leadership and |
|
|
generosity of spirit have earned him the heartfelt admiration of |
|
|
all who know him; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native of San Augustine County, Mr. Beard |
|
|
graduated from Zavalla High School in 1949 and earned a general |
|
|
business diploma from Port Arthur College the following year; soon |
|
|
thereafter, he began working as an inventory clerk at Sabine |
|
|
Propeller and Marine Service, where he rose through the ranks to be |
|
|
named president and chief executive officer; since 1988, he has |
|
|
been president and CEO of Sabine Universal Products; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In April 1999, Mr. Beard was appointed to the board |
|
|
of the Beaumont Navigation District; in that role, he collaborated |
|
|
with commissioners and legislators to create the Sabine-Neches |
|
|
Navigation District, which operates and maintains the ship channel |
|
|
and navigable waters of Jefferson County, and today he serves as |
|
|
chair of that body; he has further distinguished himself as a |
|
|
committee member of the Southeast Texas Waterways Advisory Council |
|
|
for more than a decade, and he is a valued member of the local |
|
|
Propeller Club and has held numerous leadership positions with the |
|
|
national organization, which presented him with the Maritime Person |
|
|
of the Year Award in 1986; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Mr. Beard enjoys the love |
|
|
and support of his family; devoted to his wife, the late Grace |
|
|
Beard, throughout a marriage that spanned 54 years, he is the proud |
|
|
father of 13 children; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Those individuals who step forward to share their |
|
|
time with others are indeed deserving of our profound gratitude, |
|
|
and it is a pleasure to honor Mr. Beard, who has enriched the lives |
|
|
of countless people though his community service; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend Paul Beard for his noteworthy service to |
|
|
the residents of Southeast Texas and extend to him sincere best |
|
|
wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Beard as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
