R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The elite designation of Eighth Degree Black Belt
  Grand Master is an honor bestowed on only the most deserving martial
  arts practitioners, and on September 27, 2014, David Sheffield of
  Quitman was recognized with this rare distinction; and
         WHEREAS, Since beginning his training in Tae Kwon Do in 1980,
  Mr. Sheffield has earned well-deserved praise for his dedication to
  this demanding discipline; he was inducted into the USA Martial
  Arts Hall of Fame as American Tae Kwon Do Instructor of the Year in
  2013, and the following year, he was presented with a Silver
  Lifetime Achievement Award by the hall and a Silver Lifetime
  Contribution Award by Action Martial Arts Magazine and Hall of
  Honor; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Sheffield is retired from a career in law
  enforcement during which he served as a police lieutenant and a K-9
  narcotics officer and received numerous commendations and
  accolades; in addition, he has helped train police officers across
  the state in defensive tactics and has been featured in episodes of
  COPS and Walker, Texas Ranger; in 2011, he opened the Quitman Karate
  Academy, where he continues to share his expertise as a Tae Kwon Do
  instructor; and
         WHEREAS, David Sheffield has made immeasurable contributions
  to his sport and to his fellow citizens through a lifetime of
  purposeful endeavor, and he may take justifiable pride in his
  recent black belt achievement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate David Sheffield on being
  designated an Eighth Degree Black Belt Grand Master and extend to
  him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Sheffield as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
