R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Legacy of Valor, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial,
  and the American GI Forum Paso Del Norte Chapter are commemorating
  the official 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War in 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Although conflict in Southeast Asia stretched back
  decades, the United States ground war in Vietnam dates to March
  1965, with the landing of 3,500 marines at Da Nang; nearly 200,000
  American troops were stationed in Vietnam before the year was over;
  and
         WHEREAS, Almost 3 million men and women of the U.S. military
  served in some capacity during the Vietnam War; more than 58,000
  perished, among them over 3,400 Texans, and the suffering of the
  dead and wounded, and of their loved ones, continues to
  reverberate; and
         WHEREAS, The war proved long and controversial, but
  courageous members of the military persevered, and they
  demonstrated enormous valor and patriotism during one of the most
  challenging chapters of our nation's history; Americans owe a
  lasting debt of gratitude to these men and women, and the 50th
  anniversary of the Vietnam War provides a solemn opportunity to
  honor their immeasurable sacrifice; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam
  War.
