R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Darias Whittington of Mary Carroll High School was |
|
|
honored for her exceptional achievements during the 2014-2015 |
|
|
season by being chosen as the Most Valuable Player in the Corpus |
|
|
Christi Caller-Times All-South Texas basketball awards selections; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Whittington averaged 15 points, 5 assists, and 3 |
|
|
rebounds per game as she helped the team win its first outright |
|
|
district title since 2008 and reach the playoffs for the third |
|
|
straight year; she also overcame an ankle injury to score 17 points |
|
|
during the Tigers' bi-district playoff game, and she was selected |
|
|
for the 28-6A All-District team; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The daughter of Patricia and Dwight Whittington, |
|
|
Darias Whittington has been the starting point guard on the varsity |
|
|
team for the past three years; following her graduation in 2015, she |
|
|
hopes to continue playing basketball at the collegiate level; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The All-South Texas award provides fitting |
|
|
acknowledgement of the talent, hard work, and commitment to |
|
|
excellence demonstrated by this exemplary student-athlete, and she |
|
|
may take justifiable pride in her accomplishments; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Darias Whittington on being chosen |
|
|
as the 2015 Most Valuable Player in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times |
|
|
All-South Texas basketball awards selections and extend to her |
|
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Whittington as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
