R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A 55th wedding anniversary marks a lifetime of love |
|
and shared experiences, and Bennie Lee Dugat and Dr. Henry L. Dugat |
|
Sr. are celebrating this joyous milestone in their marriage on May |
|
21, 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, Henry Dugat, the son of Johnny Dugat Sr. and |
|
Catherine Rundless, and the former Bennie Lee Durham, daughter of |
|
Luella Durham and Jeffery Durham, met as students in the fifth grade |
|
and have remained inseparable ever since; they graduated from |
|
Liberty Training High School in 1958 and were united in matrimony in |
|
1960 at a ceremony held at Trinity Valley Missionary Baptist |
|
Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, the Dugats have been blessed with |
|
a treasured family that includes five children, Cynthia Mosley and |
|
her husband, Amos, Henry L. Dugat Jr. and his wife, Gladys, Daphne |
|
Faye Dickerson and her husband, Kenneth, Alonzo E. Dugat Sr. and his |
|
wife, Betty, and Christopher D. Dugat Sr. and his wife, Angelique, |
|
as well as 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, A leader in his community, Dr. Dugat helped to |
|
establish the Lamar University satellite campus in Liberty that |
|
eventually became a branch of Prairie View A&M University, and he |
|
served as administrative director of both institutions; moreover, |
|
he played an integral role in founding the Sickle Cell Foundation of |
|
Galveston and in the renaming of a street in honor of Dr. Martin |
|
Luther King Jr.; he studied music and psychology at Texas Southern |
|
University before obtaining theological doctoral degrees from the |
|
United Christian Theological Institute and the Mt. Zion Travelers |
|
Seminary; today, he works on the staff of Allison Funeral Service |
|
and additionally serves as chair of the board of directors for the |
|
Liberty County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Dugat began serving as the minister of music at |
|
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Dayton in 1953, and he went on to |
|
earn election as an organist for the National Baptist Convention of |
|
America; during his time in that position, he toured the country |
|
performing at such venues as the Apollo Theater in New York and the |
|
Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and for his talent and |
|
dedication, he was presented with an honorary doctorate in music; |
|
he now serves as minister of music at St. Ann's Catholic Church in |
|
Mallet, Louisiana, and at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dayton; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Dugat is also a graduate of Texas Southern |
|
University, and in addition to the degree in clinical science that |
|
she earned at TSU, she also holds a bachelor's degree in Christian |
|
Counseling from the United Christian Theological Institute; she |
|
currently works as director of Firm Foundations and as a consultant |
|
for Liberty Medical Surgical Clinic, where she retired after more |
|
than 40 years as a medical technician; her early career included a |
|
tenure as the supervisor of morphology at The University of Texas |
|
Medical Branch at Galveston; active in her church as well, she |
|
serves the congregation of Trinity Valley Missionary Baptist Church |
|
as a secretary and as head of the church's new member orientation; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, The enduring union shared by Dr. and Mrs. Dugat is |
|
an inspiration to all who know them, and it is indeed a pleasure to |
|
join in congratulating this esteemed couple as they commemorate 55 |
|
years of happiness as husband and wife; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Dr. Henry L. Dugat Sr. and Bennie Lee |
|
Dugat on the occasion of their 55th wedding anniversary and extend |
|
to them warmest best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. and Mrs. Dugat as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
