R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, St. Anthony School in Robstown is commemorating the |
|
100th anniversary of its founding with a celebration in 2016; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1916 by the Missionary Sisters of the |
|
Most Pure Virgin Mary, St. Anthony School initially served 20 |
|
students who were the children of Mexican migrant farmworkers; as |
|
the Robstown community changed over the years, so did the school, |
|
which constructed a new facility in the mid-1960s; by 1997, the |
|
school had expanded to include programs for prekindergarten through |
|
the eighth grade; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today St. Anthony School continues to serve a |
|
predominately Hispanic student population; in addition to teaching |
|
the traditional subjects, the school uses computer technology to |
|
enhance learning and to equip students with the skills needed to |
|
succeed; with the support of devoted alumni, families, and |
|
teachers, the school remains a source of estimable faith-based |
|
instruction and inspiration; and |
|
WHEREAS, For a century, St. Anthony School has provided a |
|
number of young Texans with a strong educational foundation, and it |
|
is indeed fitting to recognize the school at this point in its rich |
|
history; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of |
|
St. Anthony School in Robstown and extend to its administrators, |
|
faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for the future; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
