R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Sheriff Dennis J. Kelly of the Nueces County |
|
Sheriff's Office lost his life in the line of duty on June 13, 1870, |
|
and his service and sacrifice will not soon be forgotten; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dennis Kelly was appointed as sheriff of Nueces |
|
County on April 16, 1869, and he went on to win election to the |
|
position in December of that same year; the following June, he was |
|
shot and killed by a wanted man on the street in Corpus Christi; |
|
Sheriff Kelly was 43 at the time of his death, and he left behind a |
|
wife and five children; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |
|
courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |
|
Sheriff Dennis J. Kelly, who willingly place themselves in harm's |
|
way each day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow |
|
citizens; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of |
|
Sheriff Dennis J. Kelly of the Nueces County Sheriff's Office. |
