R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Officer James Saavedra of the Port of Corpus Christi |
|
|
Police Department lost his life in the line of duty on December 19, |
|
|
2007, and his service will not soon be forgotten; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On that day, Officer Saavedra was hit by friendly |
|
|
fire at the department's shooting range, and he later died at a |
|
|
local hospital; he had four years of experience in the Port of |
|
|
Corpus Christi department and had previously served in the Corpus |
|
|
Christi Independent School District Police Department and the |
|
|
Nueces County Constable's Office; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, At the time of his death at age 40, Officer Saavedra |
|
|
was survived by his wife, Rachel, a son, two daughters, a brother, |
|
|
and his parents; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |
|
|
courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |
|
|
James Saavedra, who willingly place themselves in harm's way each |
|
|
day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of |
|
|
Officer James Saavedra of the Port of Corpus Christi Police |
|
|
Department. |
