R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Officer James Saavedra of the Port of Corpus Christi
  Police Department lost his life in the line of duty on December 19,
  2007, and his service will not soon be forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, On that day, Officer Saavedra was hit by friendly
  fire at the department's shooting range, and he later died at a
  local hospital; he had four years of experience in the Port of
  Corpus Christi department and had previously served in the Corpus
  Christi Independent School District Police Department and the
  Nueces County Constable's Office; and
         WHEREAS, At the time of his death at age 40, Officer Saavedra
  was survived by his wife, Rachel, a son, two daughters, a brother,
  and his parents; and
         WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the
  courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as
  James Saavedra, who willingly place themselves in harm's way each
  day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of
  Officer James Saavedra of the Port of Corpus Christi Police
  Department.
