R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Honorable Veronica Escobar has ably served the
  people of El Paso County as county judge for four years, and her
  knowledge and dedication have earned her the respect of many people
  along the way; and
         WHEREAS, Since taking office in 2011, Judge Escobar has
  promoted expanded access to health care through her support for the
  El Paso County Hospital District and El Paso Children's Hospital;
  she has also worked diligently to make government more effective,
  efficient, and transparent; long focused on border issues, she has
  provided an El Paso perspective on immigration in three op-ed
  columns published by the New York Times; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso,
  Judge Escobar holds a master's degree from New York University as
  well; she has dedicated her professional and civic life to
  nonprofits, education, and local government; she was presented the
  2008 Elected Official of the Year Award by the El Paso Branch of the
  National Association of Social Workers and named the 2010 Elected
  Official of the Year by the Rio Grande Council of Governments, and
  her numerous accolades further include the Women of Distinction
  Award from the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of
  Commerce, the Women of Integrity Award from Women for an Ethical El
  Paso, and the Human Rights Safe Communities Award from the Border
  Network for Human Rights; and
         WHEREAS, Veronica Escobar has made many significant
  contributions to the betterment of life in El Paso County over the
  course of her tenure as a public servant, and she may take
  justifiable pride in her exemplary record of achievement; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Veronica Escobar for her committed public
  service and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Judge Escobar as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
