H.R. No. 2232

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Members of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Grand Prairie are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the church's founding on May 17, 2015; and

WHEREAS, This house of worship was first conceived in the late 1970s by the Reverend John Brennan, then pastor of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; wanting to accommodate the growing Catholic population in South Grand Prairie, he cofounded a mission there in early 1984 that would become St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church; the first mass was held that March at Zavala Elementary School with 314 people in attendance; and

WHEREAS, In June 1985, Father John Fowler was installed as the church's inaugural pastor, and the following year, construction began on a new church complex, which was dedicated on December 5, 1987; today, members benefit from the energetic leadership of Father Joseph Hoa Duc Trinh and from the tireless efforts of all the church staff; and

WHEREAS, For three decades, St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church has served as a source of inspiration and guidance to many Grand Prairie residents who seek a full and meaningful spiritual life, and it is a pleasure to recognize the continuing commitment of this congregation to its faith and to the wider community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of the founding of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and extend to the congregation sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
