R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The 75th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
  cause for celebration, and Michael Donald Neely of Houston is
  reaching that impressive milestone on May 3, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Born in 1940 to George Neely and Cassie Lee
  Thomas-Neely, Michael Neely graduated from Phillis Wheatley High
  School in 1959; he served for four years with the United States
  Marine Corps Reserve and went on to study psychology at Texas
  Southern University; in 1963 and 1964, he was a Peace Corps
  volunteer in New York; he subsequently joined the Uncle Ben's
  Inc.-Mars Corporation and worked there for 25 years, retiring in
  1991 as a plant superintendent; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Neely has been active as a
  community leader, serving as a precinct judge in northeast Houston
  and as a member of the Harris County Democratic Ballot Board and the
  Harris County Democratic Executive Committee; in addition, he was
  the class president of the Houston Police Department Citizens'
  Police Academy and first vice president of the Houston Citizens'
  Police Academy Alumni Association; he is also a 33rd degree Mason;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Neely married his high school sweetheart, Betty
  Finner, in 1964, and they have shared their lives together for half
  a century; he is the proud father of two children, Cedric Lee Neely
  and Michelle Denise Neely, and the doting grandfather of Neely
  Simone Foster; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed with a devoted family and admiring friends,
  Michael Neely has long been a source of wisdom and inspiration to
  all who share in the richness of his life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Michael Donald Neely on his 75th
  birthday and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Neely as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
