R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close on August
  14, 2013, with the death of Jean Mills Worsham of Houston at the age
  of 91; and
         WHEREAS, Jean Worsham was born in Houston on December 5,
  1921, to Annie Lee Mills Worsham and Jesse Lee Worsham Sr.; he was a
  member of the second graduating class at Mirabeau B. Lamar High
  School, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree at The University
  of Texas at Austin, where he was president of Phi Delta Theta
  fraternity; his leadership of the fraternity's intramural football
  team earned him the lifelong nickname of "Coach"; and
         WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War
  II, Mr. Worsham served with the U.S. Army Air Forces in Japan;
  after the war, he earned a law degree at The University of Texas and
  won election to the legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of an exemplary career as a lawyer in
  Houston, Mr. Worsham served as an assistant district attorney,
  worked in private practice, and spent 25 years in the legal
  department of Shell Oil; he was a member of the State Bar of Texas
  and the Houston Bar Association, which honored him for his five
  decades in the legal profession; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Worsham gave back to his community with his
  service on the boards of the Methodist Hospital and Lon Morris
  College; an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, he
  served on its administrative board and taught Sunday school; he
  remained devoted to The University of Texas throughout his life and
  was a member of the Littlefield Society, the Chancellor's Council,
  the President's Associates, and the Longhorn Foundation, as well as
  an avid fan of Longhorn sports; for more than 50 years, he was a
  member of the Houston Country Club, where he played tennis into his
  early 80s; he also loved books, travel, and music, especially big
  band and Dixieland jazz; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Worsham shared 60 years with his wife, the
  former Roberta Murfee, and they were the parents of three sons,
  Robert Mills Worsham, James Leslie Worsham, and the late John
  Murfee Worsham; with the passing years, his family grew to include
  five grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Danrad"; and
         WHEREAS, A devoted family man and an engaged member of his
  community, Jean Worsham leaves behind a legacy that will continue
  to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jean Mills Worsham and
  extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Roberta Murfee Worsham; to his sons, Robert Mills Worsham Sr.
  and his wife, Roxanne, and James Leslie Worsham and his wife,
  Leslie; to his grandchildren, Kathryn Anne Worsham, Jesse Lee
  Worsham, Robert Mills Worsham Jr., Samuel Price Worsham, and Asha
  Elizabeth Worsham; to his brother, John William Worsham, and his
  wife, Arline; to his nieces, Gail Worsham Pitt, Cynthia Worsham
  Bowers, and Anna Larson Worsham; and to his other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jean
  Worsham.
