R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Dr. Zachary Hodges marked 20 years as president of
  Houston Community College Northwest on May 1, 2014; and
         WHEREAS, An admired educator with more than 40 years of
  experience, Dr. Hodges has served as acting vice chancellor of
  academic affairs for Houston Community College in addition to
  fulfilling his duties as president; he has worked tirelessly to
  enhance the institution's brand while collaborating with local
  school districts, supporting underserved groups in the area, and
  engaging the wider community in higher education issues; moreover,
  he has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to workforce
  development; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Hodges guided the successful effort to forge a
  partnership with The University of Texas at Tyler; UT-Tyler now
  offers junior- and senior-level engineering-degree courses at the
  HCC Alief Campus, where students can earn associate degrees in the
  subject; in addition, he facilitated a Memorandum of Understanding
  with the University of Houston System to develop a university
  center for the Katy-West Houston area; and
         WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Hodges has gained recognition as
  a strong proponent of entrepreneurship; in 2012, he delivered a
  presentation at the National Association for Community College
  Entrepreneurship conference, and the following year, he was
  selected as the association's Entrepreneurial President of the
  Year; he has also earned many accolades for his endeavors in behalf
  of economic development, including the Diamond Leadership Award
  from the West Houston Leadership Institute, the Pinnacle Award from
  the Houston West Chamber of Commerce, and the Citizen of the Year
  Award from the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan has taken leadership roles in
  such organizations as the Houston Film Commission, Genesys Works,
  the Houston Technology Center, and the Texas Association of
  Business, and he has served on commissions sponsored by the
  American Council on Education and the American Association of
  Community Colleges; he holds a bachelor's degree in history, a
  master's degree, and a doctoral degree in counseling from Texas A&M
  University-Commerce; and
         WHEREAS, Over the course of more than two decades, Zachary
  Hodges has contributed to the prosperity and vibrancy of the
  Houston area while helping numerous area residents build a strong
  foundation for success, and it is indeed fitting to recognize this
  milestone in his noteworthy career; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Zachary Hodges on his 20th
  anniversary as president of Houston Community College Northwest and
  extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Hodges as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
