R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life came to a close with the |
|
passing of Dorothy Mary Jones Adams of Houston on December 2, 2014, |
|
at the age of 100; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Houston on August 14, 1914, the former |
|
Dorothy Jones was the daughter of Albert and Ollie Jones; she |
|
graduated from Jeff Davis High School and soon put her typing and |
|
shorthand skills to use as a legal secretary for a downtown law |
|
firm; and |
|
WHEREAS, Introduced to her future husband by a lifelong |
|
friend, she married Maurice Adams in Patmos, Georgia, on July 1, |
|
1941; the couple were blessed with three children, Donald, Norman, |
|
and Shirley, and the family later grew to include six grandchildren |
|
and nine great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, When Mr. Adams was drafted during World War II, |
|
Mrs. Adams followed him to the Army Air Force Base in Bainbridge, |
|
Georgia, where she found employment as a secretary; after the war, |
|
Mr. and Mrs. Adams moved with their children to Houston, and in |
|
1947, they opened Adams Insurance Service; Mrs. Adams worked at the |
|
agency for more than half a century, continuing after the death of |
|
her husband in 1975; and |
|
WHEREAS, A woman of abiding faith, Mrs. Adams was a longtime |
|
member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Houston; there, she taught |
|
Sunday school for more than six decades and raised money at the |
|
annual bazaar with her popular hand-sewn doll clothes; she was also |
|
a talented poet and artist; and |
|
WHEREAS, This capable and caring woman enriched the lives of |
|
many during her journey on this earth, and those who shared in the |
|
warmth of her love and affection will forever hold her close in |
|
their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dorothy Mary Jones |
|
Adams and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to |
|
her sons, Donald Dean Adams and his wife, Francis, and Norman Earl |
|
Adams and his wife, Debbie; to her daughter, Shirley Anne Adams |
|
Roddenberry, and her husband, Bo; to her grandchildren, Michael |
|
Adams and his wife, Susan, Mark Adams and his wife, Missy, Andy |
|
Adams and his wife, Amy, Tracy Dacus and her husband, Mark, |
|
Stephanie Moore and her husband, Michael, and Jennifer Kegans; to |
|
her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Austin, Melissa, Isabella, |
|
Benjamin, Samuel, and Livia Adams, and Greg and Jillian Moore; and |
|
to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dorothy |
|
Adams. |
