R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Pflugerville Independent School District students
  presented the documentary True Beef: From Pasture to Plate at the
  South by Southwest Education Conference and Festival in 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Led by Mike Erickson, a chef and instructor at John
  B. Connally High School, culinary arts students and members of the
  Pflugerville ISD agricultural science team took a series of field
  trips to explore the full cycle of beef production and consumption
  in the Lone Star State, from the stockyards to the consumer's plate;
  they visited professionals in a wide range of settings, such as
  ranches, livestock shows, butcher shops, and restaurants, to learn
  the agricultural and culinary processes behind this important Texas
  industry; and
         WHEREAS, Among the Connally High culinary arts students to
  participate in the project were Mairany Whetstone, Evelyn Santos,
  DaTreon Taylor, Luis Briones, Diedre Schafer, Leslie Tagoe, Symeon
  Cantos, Joey Vega, and Reyna Garcia; members of the district's
  agricultural science team who took part were Jalen Mathis, Elaine
  Jackson, Kara Gray, Macey Bunch, and Tyler Kinsey; and
         WHEREAS, Produced by Austin filmmaker David Burrow and six
  film students from The Art Institute of Austin, True Beef: From
  Pasture to Plate follows the Pflugerville students on their journey
  to better understand the beef industry; the documentary will serve
  as an invaluable resource for teachers and for other students
  interested in pursuing a career in the field while also showcasing
  the two Pflugerville ISD programs; and
         WHEREAS, Through their participation in this project, these
  Pflugerville ISD students have explored an industry that
  contributes significantly to the vitality of the Lone Star State,
  and they are a source of great pride for their schools and their
  community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend the culinary arts and agricultural
  science students from the Pflugerville Independent School District
  for their participation in the production of True Beef: From
  Pasture to Plate and congratulate them on the film's screening at
  SXSWedu; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
  for the students as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
  of Representatives.
