R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Thalia Matherson was inducted into the African
  American Educators Hall of Fame on April 18, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, The hall of fame is part of the African American
  Education Archives and History Program, which since its founding in
  2002 has focused on the vital role that education has played in the
  African American experience in Dallas County; the organization
  preserves important artifacts, documents, visual images, and oral
  accounts, and its African American Educators Hall of Fame raises
  public awareness of the significant contributions made by teachers,
  administrators, librarians, and others; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Matherson worked in the Dallas Independent
  School District for more than two decades, acting as a teacher,
  assistant principal, principal, and district administrator; her
  administrative roles included recruiter, facilitator for principal
  staff development, and head of the district's principal leadership
  and development efforts; furthermore, she was a member of the
  Dallas School Administrators Association; and
         WHEREAS, Following her retirement from Dallas ISD,
  Dr. Matherson dedicated her time and talents to such worthy
  organizations as Southern Methodist University, Huston-Tillotson
  University, the Dallas Retired Teachers Association, the Dallas
  Women's Foundation, and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; she has
  served as executive director of the South Central Jurisdiction of
  the United Methodist Church and as president of the Trinity chapter
  of The Links; and
         WHEREAS, Through her outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Thalia
  Matherson has made a positive difference in the lives of countless
  Texans, and she may take justifiable pride in this prestigious
  recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Thalia Matherson on her
  induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame and
  extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Matherson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
