R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Thalia Matherson was inducted into the African |
|
American Educators Hall of Fame on April 18, 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, The hall of fame is part of the African American |
|
Education Archives and History Program, which since its founding in |
|
2002 has focused on the vital role that education has played in the |
|
African American experience in Dallas County; the organization |
|
preserves important artifacts, documents, visual images, and oral |
|
accounts, and its African American Educators Hall of Fame raises |
|
public awareness of the significant contributions made by teachers, |
|
administrators, librarians, and others; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Matherson worked in the Dallas Independent |
|
School District for more than two decades, acting as a teacher, |
|
assistant principal, principal, and district administrator; her |
|
administrative roles included recruiter, facilitator for principal |
|
staff development, and head of the district's principal leadership |
|
and development efforts; furthermore, she was a member of the |
|
Dallas School Administrators Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Following her retirement from Dallas ISD, |
|
Dr. Matherson dedicated her time and talents to such worthy |
|
organizations as Southern Methodist University, Huston-Tillotson |
|
University, the Dallas Retired Teachers Association, the Dallas |
|
Women's Foundation, and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; she has |
|
served as executive director of the South Central Jurisdiction of |
|
the United Methodist Church and as president of the Trinity chapter |
|
of The Links; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through her outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Thalia |
|
Matherson has made a positive difference in the lives of countless |
|
Texans, and she may take justifiable pride in this prestigious |
|
recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Thalia Matherson on her |
|
induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame and |
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. Matherson as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
