R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A. N. McCallum High School in Austin has been named
  the 2015 National Grammy Signature School by the Grammy Foundation;
  and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1988 by the Recording Academy, the
  Grammy Foundation works to heighten appreciation of recorded music
  as a vital part of American culture; its initiatives also engage the
  industry, the cultural community, and the public to encourage
  awareness of the value of arts education; and
         WHEREAS, The Grammy Signature Schools program recognizes
  public high schools that make an exceptional commitment to music
  education; finalists in the competition submit documentation such
  as recordings of school concerts and sample concert programs for
  evaluation by an independent blue-ribbon committee of music
  educators and professionals; and
         WHEREAS, In winning the highest honor accorded by the
  program, McCallum High School will also receive a $5,000 grant; the
  school is home to the Austin Independent School District's Fine
  Arts Academy, which draws talented students from across the city;
  led by director of bands Carol Nelson, the school's music programs
  include band, choir, orchestra, classical guitar, jazz ensemble,
  and steel drum ensemble; and
         WHEREAS, McCallum High School is doing its part to uphold
  Austin's reputation as one of the nation's most musical cities, and
  this prestigious accolade is a source of pride to the entire
  community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate McCallum High School on its
  selection as the 2015 National Grammy Signature School and extend
  to its students and faculty sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
