R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Nishiki Maredia has ably served her fellow Texans as |
|
|
an aide in the office of State Representative Gene Wu during the |
|
|
84th Legislative Session; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since joining the staff, Ms. Maredia has provided |
|
|
vital assistance in handling a wide variety of challenging tasks; |
|
|
in addition to learning more about the legislative process and the |
|
|
issues facing citizens of the Lone Star State, she has gained |
|
|
valuable experience in the field of public service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Maredia is a student at The University of Texas |
|
|
at Austin, where she has acquired leadership experience through her |
|
|
involvement in a number of notable groups; she has served as |
|
|
secretary, vice president, and president of the History Club, as |
|
|
coxswain for the women's and men's rowing teams, and as head |
|
|
representative for the Westlake Chapter of the Junior Statesmen of |
|
|
America; moreover, she was a cofounder of Your Fan Club, which works |
|
|
to promote gender equality in sports teams and other organizations; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to her campus activities, Ms. Maredia |
|
|
has contributed more than 1,500 hours of community service with |
|
|
such organizations as the Red Cross, the Capital Area Food Bank of |
|
|
Texas, Keep Austin Beautiful, and the Austin Learning Center, where |
|
|
she has worked as a tutor and mentor; she has also engaged in |
|
|
grassroots politics as a finance intern with Annie's List and as a |
|
|
participant in the Wendy Davis Fellowship program; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has performed her |
|
|
duties as a legislative aide with skill and dedication, and she is |
|
|
indeed deserving of special recognition for her fine work; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend Nishiki Maredia for her service as a |
|
|
legislative aide in the office of State Representative Gene Wu and |
|
|
extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in all her |
|
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Maredia as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
