R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Chris Ramirez, a reporter for the Corpus Christi
  Caller-Times, was honored at the 12th annual First Amendment Awards
  and Scholarship Dinner, presented by the Fort Worth chapter of the
  Society of Professional Journalists on April 17, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, These unique accolades recognize exceptional
  journalism that defends the freedom of the press as guaranteed by
  the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, supports the public's
  right to know, and champions the powerless and disadvantaged; and
         WHEREAS, Competing in the category for newspapers with a
  circulation of less than 50,000, Mr. Ramirez won an Opening the
  Books Award for his story titled "When Wells Run Dry," published in
  the Caller-Times; furthermore, his story "Port Growth" was a
  finalist in that same category; and
         WHEREAS, Through his skill, hard work, and dedication to the
  principles enshrined in the First Amendment, Chris Ramirez has
  earned well-deserved recognition from his professional peers for
  his journalistic excellence; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Chris Ramirez for winning a 2015
  First Amendment Award from the Fort Worth Society of Professional
  Journalists and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Ramirez as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
