R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Natalie Jenkins Sorrell is being presented with the |
|
Motherhood: The Lifetime Achievement Award by Dallas Can Academies |
|
on May 8, 2015, in honor of her commitment to education, family, and |
|
the community; and |
|
WHEREAS, The director of investments for the $3.4 billion |
|
Employees' Retirement Fund for the City of Dallas, Ms. Sorrell |
|
oversees the design and implementation of the overall investment |
|
strategy for ERF; since joining the group in 2006, she has led the |
|
effort to fulfill new private equity, private real estate, global |
|
equity, and master limited partnership allocations of more than |
|
$600 million; she has also played an integral role in the |
|
establishment of the Next Generation Manager Program, allocating 10 |
|
percent of the fund to smaller, newer, and/or minority-owned |
|
investment managers across asset classes; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Sorrell began her distinguished career in |
|
finance with the mergers and acquisitions group in investment |
|
banking at J. P. Morgan in New York City; she went on to join the |
|
private equity arm of GE Capital, GE Equity, and later worked in |
|
both global strategy and finance director posts at publishers |
|
McGraw-Hill and Voyager Expanded Learning; and |
|
WHEREAS, An honors graduate of Spelman College, Ms. Sorrell |
|
earned her MBA from the Wharton School at the University of |
|
Pennsylvania; frequently recognized for her many accomplishments, |
|
she was named a German Marshall Fellow in 2009, and in 2011 she |
|
received the Rising Star of Public Funds Award from Institutional |
|
Investor; more recently, she has been honored as one of the Dallas |
|
Business Journal's "40 Under Forty" and as one of the 40 Under Forty |
|
Investment Officers by aiCIO; and |
|
WHEREAS, This esteemed executive has given back to her fellow |
|
North Texas residents through her work as chair of the investment |
|
committee of Big Thought, a Dallas-based nonprofit focused on |
|
creative learning solutions for at-risk youth; she is also active |
|
in the capital campaign for the Methodist Health System Foundation |
|
and, as a member of the Dallas Chapter of The Links, Inc., she has |
|
led efforts to educate minority students in science, technology, |
|
engineering, and math; and |
|
WHEREAS, Married to Michael J. Sorrell, president of Paul |
|
Quinn College, Ms. Sorrell is a devoted mother to a young son and |
|
daughter; and |
|
WHEREAS, Natalie Jenkins Sorrell has set an inspiring example |
|
of professional excellence and civic engagement, all while |
|
balancing the demands of a growing family, and she may take great |
|
pride in her many successes; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Natalie Jenkins Sorrell on her receipt of |
|
the Motherhood: The Lifetime Achievement Award from Dallas Can |
|
Academies and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Sorrell as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
