R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Diana R. Garland has deservedly been recognized by |
|
the board of trustees of Baylor University with the renaming of the |
|
institution's School of Social Work in her honor; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Garland joined the Baylor College of Arts and |
|
Sciences faculty as a professor of social work in 1997; in 1999, the |
|
program became a separate department, and she served as chair for |
|
four years before being named the inaugural dean of the newly |
|
established School of Social Work in 2005; and |
|
WHEREAS, In that important position, Ms. Garland has |
|
overseen many impressive developments, including the expansion of |
|
the full-time faculty from 5 to 20 members, the creation of a Ph.D. |
|
program, and the relocation of the school to its own building in |
|
downtown Waco; moreover, the school was recognized in the 2012 list |
|
of the Best Graduate Schools published by U.S. News & World Report, |
|
and in the fall of 2015, it is opening a Houston campus, which will |
|
offer a master of social work degree; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Garland is concluding her notable tenure as dean |
|
on June 1, 2015, at which time she will resume her role as a faculty |
|
member; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through her leadership, vision, and dedication, |
|
Ms. Garland has significantly benefited the Baylor School of Social |
|
Work, and she has earned the lasting respect and admiration of |
|
colleagues, faculty, and students alike; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Diana R. Garland on having the |
|
Baylor University Diana R. Garland School of Social Work named in |
|
her honor and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Garland as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
