R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, World War II veteran Charles Alford of Waco has been
  featured in the Waco Tribune-Herald as one of its Voices of Valor;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Alford enlisted in the army following the attack
  on Pearl Harbor and subsequently attended the Field Artillery
  Officer Candidate School, graduating as a second lieutenant; his
  first posting was to Camp Shelby, Mississippi, where he joined the
  65th Division, 868th Field Artillery Battalion; a year later he
  became a survey officer and was promoted to first lieutenant; and
         WHEREAS, After he was transferred overseas, Mr. Alford
  became a forward observer with the 6th Armored Division of General
  George S. Patton's Third Army; he participated in the Battle of the
  Bulge and in the fighting to relieve Bastogne, and he took part in
  the liberation of Buchenwald; among the awards bestowed on this
  courageous Texan were the Silver Star, for gallantry in action at
  Leipzig, and three Bronze Stars; reassigned to the 2nd Armored
  Division after the end of the war, he remained in Germany as part of
  the Allied occupation and served as a juror on war crimes tribunals;
  following his discharge at Fort Hood in 1946, he joined the
  reserves, from which he later retired after 28 years of cumulative
  service; and
         WHEREAS, While stationed at Fort Hood, Mr. Alford met and
  married Goldia Brashears, and the couple shared 61 loving years
  together before she passed away; he now lives in Waco, where he
  enjoys spending time with his children and other loved ones; and
         WHEREAS, Through his bravery and great dedication, Charles
  Alford fulfilled the highest ideals of the United States armed
  forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a lasting debt of gratitude;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Charles Alford for his exemplary service
  to his country as a member of the United States Army and
  congratulate him on his recognition as one of the Voices of Valor by
  the Waco Tribune-Herald; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Alford as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
