R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, World War II veteran Henry Fleischhauer has been
  featured in the Waco Tribune-Herald as one of its Voices of Valor;
  and
         WHEREAS, A native of Riesel, Mr. Fleischhauer tried to enlist
  in the military after graduating from high school, but he was turned
  down because he was considered more useful to the war effort as a
  farmer; six months later, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and
  after training at Fort Pickett, Virginia, he shipped out to
  England, arriving there in October 1944; following several more
  weeks of training, he landed in France with the 310th Infantry
  Regiment of the 78th Infantry Division; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Fleischhauer and his anti-tank unit fought in
  the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns, and
  he was in mortal danger on many occasions; during the occupation of
  Germany, he served as a prison guard and took part in the capture of
  two escaped S.S. officers; occasionally his wartime experiences
  took a lighter turn: he celebrated his 21st birthday in a winery,
  sharing his K-rations with the family who operated the wine press;
  and
         WHEREAS, The recipient of three Bronze Stars and a number of
  other decorations, Mr. Fleischhauer was honorably discharged in
  1946; he returned to Texas and married Dorothy King in 1947, and
  they shared a union that spanned six and a half decades, until her
  passing in 2012; Mr. Fleishhauer worked for the General Electric
  Supply Company for 47 years in Waco, Fort Worth, and New Orleans;
  and
         WHEREAS, Through his bravery and great dedication, Henry
  Fleischhauer fulfilled the highest ideals of the United States
  armed forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a lasting debt of
  gratitude; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Henry Fleischhauer for his exemplary
  service to his country as a member of the United States Army and
  congratulate him on his recognition as one of the Voices of Valor by
  the Waco Tribune-Herald; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Fleischhauer as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
