R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, From his courageous efforts in two wars to his work
  as an elected official and volunteer, Eddie Janek Sr. of Galveston
  has devoted himself to serving the greater good, and he is indeed
  deserving of recognition for his many accomplishments; and
         WHEREAS, After growing up on a farm near West during the Great
  Depression, Eddie Janek volunteered for the U.S. Navy shortly after
  the United States entered World War II; he was just 15 years old at
  the time, so he fibbed about his age and doctored his Catholic
  confirmation records in order to fight for his country; he spent
  four years in the war's Pacific Theater, where he participated in
  landings in Leyte and Peleliu, and he remained a member of the navy
  through the Korean War, earning the rank of ship's serviceman
  second class; for his valorous service, he received numerous
  military citations, including the Philippine Liberation Medal and
  presidential unit citations from President Franklin D. Roosevelt
  and from the president of South Korea; and
         WHEREAS, After concluding his tenure in the armed forces,
  Mr. Janek settled in Galveston and went on to successfully pursue a
  career in the telecommunications industry, eventually starting his
  own company; for 16 years, he worked in behalf of area residents as
  county commissioner, and he has also benefited his community in a
  number of other ways, from raising funds for a neighbor in need to
  coaching Little League, Pony League, and American Legion baseball
  teams for several decades; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Janek and the love of his life, the former Doris
  Denke, shared a rewarding marriage that spanned more than six
  decades before Mrs. Janek passed away in 2015; the couple raised
  three sons, Ed, Kyle, and Craig, and through the years, Mr. Janek
  has seen his family grow to include six grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Eddie Janek has contributed to his fellow citizens
  through a lifetime of purposeful endeavor, and in so doing, he has
  set an inspiring example of leadership, integrity, and generosity;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Eddie Janek Sr. for his service to his
  community and to his country and extend to him sincere best wishes
  for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Janek as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
