R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, KEW Learning Academy in Houston is holding its
  eighth annual Profiles of Prominence Awards Banquet and Dinner
  Dance on May 29, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Organized around the principles of knowledge,
  education, and work, KEW Learning Academy was founded in 2008 by
  Youletta Jayne McCullough with the goal of improving the lives of
  high-need and at-risk individuals in the Greater Houston area
  through a variety of educational and mentoring programs; the
  nonprofit organization has partnered with a number of worthy groups
  to develop lifelong learners and to encourage achievement in the
  areas of science, technology, engineering, agriculture, the arts,
  and mathematics; in 2014, the academy launched the first
  Engineering Design Evening Camp; and
         WHEREAS, Each year at the Profiles of Prominence Awards
  Banquet, KEW Academy highlights outstanding citizens who have
  demonstrated excellence in their respective fields; for 2015,
  educators Nakia Singleton and Kristi Johnson are being honored with
  the Kaduceus Young Achievers Award, while Rickey Davis and Loretta
  Vance, both educators as well, are receiving the McPeters
  Ambassadors Award; and
         WHEREAS, Furthermore, the academy is bestowing the
  Distinguished Award for Lifetime Achievement on Kathy
  Blueford-Daniels, Cherye Jefferson, Valantha Spivey, and Joetta
  Stevenson for their community service and on Myrtice Newhouse, Ida
  Powell, and Sharon Terry for their work in education; Tony Webber is
  also being recognized with the Distinguished Award for Lifetime
  Achievement in the business category; and
         WHEREAS, KEW Learning Academy is providing area residents
  with important educational opportunities, and in so doing, it is
  helping to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to
  build a bright and rewarding future; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor KEW Learning Academy on the occasion of
  its eighth annual Profiles of Prominence Awards Banquet and Dinner
  Dance and extend to all of the event's honorees sincere best wishes
  for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the academy as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
