R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The death of former Texas state representative
  Lawrence Dean Cobb on January 31, 2015, at the age of 78, brought a
  great loss to his family and friends; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Marlin on May 16, 1936, Dean Cobb was the son
  of Lawrence Morgan Cobb and Ruth Day Bladen; he attended The
  University of Texas at Austin on a track scholarship, and he served
  his country as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and as commander
  of the 36th Division of the Texas Army National Guard in Dumas;
  after graduating from Baylor Law School in 1962, he began his legal
  practice in Dumas as a partner in Lovell, Lyle, and Cobb; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Cobb served as Moore County attorney before
  winning election to the Texas House of Representatives in 1968;
  over the course of three terms in office, he served as chair of the
  interim Medical Welfare Program Committee and as vice chair of the
  Oil, Gas, and Mining Committee, the Human Resources Subcommittee on
  Public Welfare, and the Automatic Data Processing in State
  Government Committee; and
         WHEREAS, Following his tenure in the legislature, Mr. Cobb
  became a resident partner with Bracewell and Patterson,
  establishing its Austin office; he opened a solo practice in 1986;
  and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Cobb was active in a number of professional and
  philanthropic organizations, serving on the boards of the State Bar
  of Texas, the Texas Young Lawyers Association, and the Texas
  Industries for the Blind and Handicapped, and he was a founding
  board member of the Texas Union Advisory Council; in addition, he
  was a life member of the Grand Lodge of Texas, Ancient Free and
  Accepted Masons; in his leisure, he enjoyed traveling with friends,
  reading, golfing, running, and cheering for the Texas Longhorn
  athletic teams; and
         WHEREAS, Above all, Dean Cobb cherished the time spent with
  his loved ones, and those who were privileged to know him will
  forever treasure their memories of this true gentleman, friend, and
  scholar; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of the Honorable
  Lawrence Dean Cobb and extend sincere condolences to the members of
  his family: to his wife, Kathleen Garcia Cobb; to his daughters,
  Kendall Cobb Courtney and her husband, David, Courtney Cobb
  Langford and her husband, Keith, and Susanna Cobb Butler and her
  husband, Marty; to his grandchildren, Sarah, Huck, Clark, and
  Sally; to his brother, Donald Cobb, and his wife, Susan; to his
  first wife, Patricia Threadgill McNamara; to his godson, Bill
  Marsh, and his wife, Elizabeth; and to his many other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lawrence
  Dean Cobb.
