R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, The members of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church
  in Magnolia Springs are celebrating the 150th anniversary of their
  church's founding on June 28, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Springhill Missionary Baptist was established in
  1865 at the end of the civil war to provide a place for worship and
  education for recently freed slaves; they met in a log cabin until
  1868, when congregants purchased 14 acres of land for a church,
  school, and cemetery; as Magnolia Springs and the surrounding area
  grew, so did the church, and its present facility was constructed in
  1970; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout its history, Springhill Missionary
  Baptist has played a vital role in the community, providing myriad
  opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship; furthermore,
  the church has established the Sophronia Holmes and Willie M.
  Rosemon Scholarship to honor two devoted members and help support
  local students, and it is active with the Kirbyville Christian
  Outreach program; and
         WHEREAS, Springhill Missionary Baptist Church has long
  served as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship
  there, and its continued existence is a testament to the unwavering
  commitment of its members and clergy, both past and present; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of Springhill
  Missionary Baptist Church and extend to the congregation sincere
  best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and fellowship;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
