R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of Springhill Missionary Baptist Church |
|
in Magnolia Springs are celebrating the 150th anniversary of their |
|
church's founding on June 28, 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, Springhill Missionary Baptist was established in |
|
1865 at the end of the civil war to provide a place for worship and |
|
education for recently freed slaves; they met in a log cabin until |
|
1868, when congregants purchased 14 acres of land for a church, |
|
school, and cemetery; as Magnolia Springs and the surrounding area |
|
grew, so did the church, and its present facility was constructed in |
|
1970; and |
|
WHEREAS, Throughout its history, Springhill Missionary |
|
Baptist has played a vital role in the community, providing myriad |
|
opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship; furthermore, |
|
the church has established the Sophronia Holmes and Willie M. |
|
Rosemon Scholarship to honor two devoted members and help support |
|
local students, and it is active with the Kirbyville Christian |
|
Outreach program; and |
|
WHEREAS, Springhill Missionary Baptist Church has long |
|
served as a source of inspiration and guidance to those who worship |
|
there, and its continued existence is a testament to the unwavering |
|
commitment of its members and clergy, both past and present; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 150th anniversary of Springhill |
|
Missionary Baptist Church and extend to the congregation sincere |
|
best wishes for many more years of shared prayer and fellowship; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
