R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
  passing of Larry Frank Orlando of Pinehurst on April 11, 2015, at
  the age of 70; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Houston on November 11, 1944, Larry Orlando
  developed a passion for sports at an early age through the Variety
  Boys' Club, where he participated in basketball, baseball,
  football, and boxing and earned his nickname of "Red Dog"; he went
  on to play football and baseball at Reagan High School and
  subsequently at Kilgore College; and
         WHEREAS, In addition to enjoying a long and fulfilling career
  at the Houston Service Center, Mr. Orlando dedicated himself to
  guiding young athletes in his community; he became a football coach
  at the Variety Boys' Club and helped with other VBC activities, and
  he coached at the Oaks Dads Club and the local YMCA as well;
  moreover, he was the sports announcer for Houston Christian High
  School for more than three decades and a press box announcer for the
  Karl Young College Baseball League; he also brought joy to children
  during his 25-year tenure as the official Santa Claus for the Texas
  Children's Hospital; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Orlando was joined in marriage with the former
  Angela Warren in 1965; over the years, the couple became the parents
  of three children, Vick, Toni Dene', and Gina, who preceded her
  father in death; with the passing years, the family grew to include
  six grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Larry Orlando made a meaningful difference in the
  lives of his loved ones and the numerous young people he mentored,
  and his contributions will long be remembered by all who had the
  good fortune to know him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Larry Frank Orlando
  and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Angela Orlando; to his children, Vick Orlando and his wife,
  Melinda, and Toni Dene' Orlando Alverson; to his mother, Eula
  Frances DuBroff; to his brother, Dr. Joe Orlando, and his wife,
  Hope; to his sisters, Constance DuBroff, Carol Price, and Deborah
  Pape and her husband, Glen; to his grandchildren, Lauren Orlando,
  Tyler Orlando and his fiancée, Ellie Dabney, Taylor Dene'
  Orlando-Gulledge, Forrest Vaughn, and Tanner and Teagan Alverson;
  and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Larry Frank
  Orlando.
