R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, For 65 years, families of St. Francis of Assisi |
|
|
Catholic Church in Houston have joined together to celebrate their |
|
|
faith; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Organized on June 26, 1950, the church was led by |
|
|
Father John Cummings, who oversaw an original congregation of |
|
|
approximately 700 families; the first church structure was |
|
|
completed in September of that same year, and the St. Francis of |
|
|
Assisi School was opened in 1955; a new sanctuary was dedicated in |
|
|
1966 to accommodate the growing needs of the parish, and the |
|
|
church's membership has continued to flourish over the ensuing |
|
|
half-century; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the years, the church has also benefited from |
|
|
the able leadership of Fathers Robert Blankenstein, Alfred |
|
|
Greenwald, Joseph Culver, Marion Polker, Michael Doerflein, Thomas |
|
|
Miller, Patrick Wells, and Romanus Muoneke, and today, that |
|
|
tradition of service and support continues under the direction of |
|
|
Father Edmund Nnadozie; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, United by their shared faith, the congregants of |
|
|
this notable house of worship have established a variety of |
|
|
commendable programs that foster fellowship and offer help to those |
|
|
in need; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church has long |
|
|
contributed to its community, with countless area Catholics finding |
|
|
spiritual inspiration and guidance there, and its continued |
|
|
existence is a tribute to the unwavering commitment of its members, |
|
|
both past and present; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 65th anniversary of St. Francis |
|
|
of Assisi Catholic Church and extend to its parishioners sincere |
|
|
best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the church as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
