R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
  memories of Oris G. Green of Houston, who died on March 4, 2015, at
  the age of 71; and
         WHEREAS, Oris Green was born in Houston's Fifth Ward on
  January 13, 1944, to Oris Green Sr. and Katie Green; after
  graduating from Phillis Wheatley High School, he received a
  football scholarship from Southern University in Baton Rouge,
  Louisiana, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business
  administration and served in the U.S. Army Reserve; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Green and his wife, Alma, shared a rewarding
  marriage spanning many years together until his passing, and he was
  the proud father of three daughters, Yolanda, Deneitra, and
  Stephanie; later in life, he was blessed with seven grandchildren
  and a great-grandchild; and
         WHEREAS, After graduating from college, Mr. Green moved with
  his family to Dallas, where he became the first African American
  marketing representative for the Southwest District of Mobil Oil;
  he went on to work for Fox and Jacobs Homes and Xerox, and in 1975,
  he returned to Houston, where he worked for Southern Pacific
  Railroad and ran his own company, Green's Iron Work and Burglar
  Bars; he was also employed by the Aldine Independent School
  District and retired from the district as superintendent for school
  expansion and improvements; and
         WHEREAS, A man of strong religious faith, Mr. Green was a
  longtime member of Sloan Memorial United Methodist Church, where he
  served as a trustee and a member of the United Methodist Men; in
  addition, he ministered to men with cancer at the Life (Cancer)
  Ministry of Windsor Village United Methodist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Green was an expert cook who often raised money
  for his church with his popular barbecue and fish fry dinners, and
  he was an enthusiastic and expert gardener who delighted in sharing
  his homegrown produce with his family, his friends, and people in
  need; and
         WHEREAS, Oris Green lived a rich and purposeful life, and
  memories of his warmth, compassion, and concern for others will
  continue to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Oris G. Green and
  extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Alma Green; to his mother, Katie Green; to his daughters,
  Yolanda Hempstead Brown, Deneitra Hutchinson and her husband, Jeff,
  and Stephanie Lee; to his sister, Maudell Simon, and her husband,
  Junius; to his grandchildren, Paul Brown, Shallanie Martin, Braxton
  Scott, Christopher, Cameron, and Noah Hutchinson, and Nicholas Lee;
  to his great-grandson, C. J. Martin; to his nephew, Junius Simon;
  and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Oris
  G. Green.
