        |  | R E S O L U T I O N | 
      
        |  | WHEREAS, Kristina Correa won first place in the annual | 
      
        |  | scholarship essay contest of the Optimist Club of Downtown Corpus | 
      
        |  | Christi, and she is indeed deserving of special recognition for her | 
      
        |  | achievement; and | 
      
        |  | WHEREAS, Each year, the Optimist Club of Downtown Corpus | 
      
        |  | Christi hosts a scholarship contest for local students; this year's | 
      
        |  | theme was "Optimism Should Be A Priority," and as the first-place | 
      
        |  | winner, Ms. Correa received $200; moreover, her essay will be | 
      
        |  | submitted to compete for a $2,500 scholarship from the Optimist | 
      
        |  | Club South Texas District; and | 
      
        |  | WHEREAS, As valedictorian of her senior class at | 
      
        |  | Tuloso-Midway High School, Ms. Correa has been a member of the mock | 
      
        |  | trial team, the academic decathlon team, and the KEDT-TV Challenge | 
      
        |  | team since her sophomore year; in college, she plans to study | 
      
        |  | microbiology, and she has been accepted to both Stanford and | 
      
        |  | Harvard; and | 
      
        |  | WHEREAS, Through hard work and a commitment to excellence, | 
      
        |  | this outstanding young Texan has demonstrated great ability as she | 
      
        |  | works toward her scholastic goals, and she may indeed look forward | 
      
        |  | to a future bright with promise; now, therefore, be it | 
      
        |  | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas | 
      
        |  | Legislature hereby congratulate Kristina Correa on winning the | 
      
        |  | annual scholarship essay contest of the Optimist Club of Downtown | 
      
        |  | Corpus Christi and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued | 
      
        |  | success; and, be it further | 
      
        |  | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | 
      
        |  | prepared for Ms. Correa as an expression of high regard by the Texas | 
      
        |  | House of Representatives. |
