R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Matthew Carlson of The University of Texas at Austin
  Cockrell School of Engineering has been named a recipient of a
  National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship; and
         WHEREAS, Currently a senior, Mr. Carlson will receive three
  years of financial support for his graduate studies within a
  five-year fellowship period; the grant includes both a $34,000
  annual stipend and a yearly cost-of-education allowance to the
  school; and
         WHEREAS, The NSF Graduate Fellowship Program was founded in
  1952; it supports research in science, technology, engineering, and
  mathematics by identifying students early in their graduate careers
  based on academic achievements and their potential for advancing
  knowledge in their disciplines; and
         WHEREAS, Matthew Carlson has demonstrated an exceptional
  commitment to excellence in his field, and he may indeed take pride
  in this noteworthy achievement; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Matthew Carlson on his receipt of a
  Graduate Research Fellowship from the National Science Foundation
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Carlson as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
