R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the Society for Social Work Leadership in
  Health Care are marking the organization's 50th anniversary at
  their annual meeting and conference in Austin October 14-17, 2015;
  and
         WHEREAS, The field of medical social work in the United
  States dates back to the early 1900s, when Ida M. Cannon, at
  Massachusetts General, pioneered the role of the on-site hospital
  social worker; since then, these dedicated professionals have
  benefited countless individuals and families by incorporating an
  understanding of the patient's social environment and challenges
  into their medical treatment plan; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1965, the Society for Social Work
  Leadership in Health Care serves as a central source of advocacy,
  education, and networking for health care social workers; with
  approximately 500 members from more than 40 states and 4 countries,
  it seeks to promote universal accessibility and to increase the
  effectiveness of care that addresses the psychosocial components of
  health and illness; and
         WHEREAS, The organization has played a key role in the
  development of national practice standards, producing publications
  on health care social work that are used in both academic and
  clinical settings, and for the last 10 years, it has actively
  cultivated future leaders through its Social Work Health Leadership
  Foundation training program; the society also lends its support and
  expertise to practitioners and to agencies such as the Joint
  Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and the
  National Association of Social Workers; and
         WHEREAS, Over the past half-century, members of the Society
  for Social Work Leadership in Health Care have made vital
  contributions to the medical community, and they are indeed
  deserving of recognition and appreciation for their tireless
  efforts to improve the lives of their patients; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Society
  for Social Work Leadership in Health Care and extend to all those
  associated with the organization sincere best wishes for a
  productive and enjoyable meeting and conference; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
