R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Hillwood Middle School, in the Keller Independent |
|
School District, has been recognized as a 2015 Texas School to Watch |
|
by the Texas Middle School Association and the National Forum to |
|
Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Schools to Watch program was created in 1999 by |
|
the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform, an alliance |
|
of educators, researchers, national associations, and officers of |
|
professional organizations and foundations dedicated to the |
|
development and academic success of middle school students; the |
|
forum partners with organizations in 19 states to identify |
|
high-performing middle schools that have established a record of |
|
academic achievement, that respond sensitively to the unique |
|
developmental challenges of early adolescence, that provide |
|
equitably for their students, and that have created an |
|
organizational structure to sustain those accomplishments; and |
|
WHEREAS, Hillwood Middle School is one of only 28 schools in |
|
Texas to earn this prestigious honor; the school was selected for |
|
recognition by teams of education professionals who observed |
|
classes, interviewed teachers, administrators, and parents, and |
|
reviewed statistical data, lesson quality, and student work; and |
|
WHEREAS, Led by principal Kathleen Eckert since 2012, |
|
Hillwood Middle School enrolls some 1,100 students in grades seven |
|
and eight; in 2014, the school received the highest rating accorded |
|
by the Texas Education Agency, as well as distinctions in |
|
reading/English language arts, social studies, postsecondary |
|
readiness, and Top 25 Percent: Closing Performance Gaps; and |
|
WHEREAS, The administrators, teachers, and students of |
|
Hillwood Middle School have established a solid record of academic |
|
excellence, and their outstanding efforts are indeed worthy of |
|
special recognition; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Hillwood Middle School on being |
|
named a 2015 Texas School to Watch by the Texas Middle School |
|
Association and the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades |
|
Reform and extend to all those associated with the school sincere |
|
best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Hillwood Middle School as an expression of high regard |
|
by the Texas House of Representatives. |
