R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Frank Herrera Jr. is being recognized for his |
|
notable accomplishments by the Westside Development Corporation at |
|
the organization's 2015 Westside Honors Exitos en Nuestro Barrio |
|
Gala, taking place in San Antonio on May 21; and |
|
WHEREAS, A distinguished member of the legal profession, |
|
Mr. Herrera was encouraged to become a lawyer by his parents, Frank |
|
and Elvira Herrera; after earning a bachelor's degree in political |
|
science and a law degree from St. Mary's University, he started his |
|
own firm, and his parents refinanced their home to help him purchase |
|
office furniture and equipment; he later entered into a partnership |
|
with Phillip Hardberger, a former chief justice of the Texas Fourth |
|
Court of Appeals and a mayor of San Antonio, and in 1983, he became |
|
the sole owner of the Herrera Law Firm; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Herrera is also board chair and managing partner |
|
of Valiente International Ventures, which supplies wheel and tire |
|
assemblies to the Toyota plant in San Antonio; he has dedicated his |
|
time, expertise, and resources to the Mexican American Legal |
|
Defense and Educational Fund, the St. Mary's University Alumni |
|
Association, and Central Catholic High School, and he has served as |
|
chair of the board of the New America Alliance, which champions |
|
Latino entrepreneurship; and |
|
WHEREAS, Among Mr. Herrera's many awards are the 2010 Pat |
|
Maloney Sr. Public Service Award from the Northwest Democrats, the |
|
2002 Hispanic Heritage Award for the Legal Profession from La |
|
Prensa, the 1994 La Feria Escolar Award for Commitment to |
|
Education, and the 1992 Valerie Kantor Award for Extraordinary |
|
Achievement from the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational |
|
Fund; in 2005, he was the grand marshal of the annual Cesar Chavez |
|
Foundation Parade; and |
|
WHEREAS, Frank Herrera has made a meaningful difference in |
|
the community through his worthwhile endeavors, and he is indeed |
|
deserving of this significant accolade; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Frank Herrera Jr. on his |
|
recognition by the Westside Development Corporation at the 2015 |
|
Westside Honors Exitos en Nuestro Barrio Gala and extend to him |
|
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Herrera as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
