R E S O L U T I O N
|

|
|
WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |
|
|
of Allen Dwain Place Sr. of Gatesville, who passed away on November |
|
|
7, 2013, at the age of 82; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native of Crawford, Allen Place was born on March |
|
|
14, 1931, to Frank and Lucille Bunyard Place; he graduated from |
|
|
Crawford High School in 1948 and enlisted in the United States Air |
|
|
Force two years later; he was called into action during the Korean |
|
|
War, and while on leave in 1952, he exchanged wedding vows with the |
|
|
former Rosy McCoy; the couple enjoyed a rewarding marriage that |
|
|
spanned six decades and became the parents of a son, Allen, as well |
|
|
as grandparents and great-grandparents many times over; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, On returning to civilian life, Mr. Place enrolled at |
|
|
Baylor University and earned his degree in 1957; he spent 10 years |
|
|
as an accountant with the PanAmerican Oil Corporation and went on to |
|
|
work for the Texas Youth Commission for three decades in both |
|
|
Gatesville and Corsicana; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Place dedicated himself to his community, |
|
|
joining the Lions Club in 1965 and earning the title of Lion of the |
|
|
Year in 1998, and he was proud to receive his 45-year chevron from |
|
|
the club in 2010; he and his wife were honored as the 2006 Citizens |
|
|
of the Year for their exemplary service to the citizens of |
|
|
Gatesville; moreover, Mr. Place was a member of First Baptist |
|
|
Church in Gatesville for nearly half a century, and he assisted the |
|
|
congregation in the role of deacon; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Allen Place was a devoted family man and a |
|
|
significant asset to his community, and he will forever be |
|
|
remembered with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Allen Dwain Place Sr. |
|
|
and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family, his friends, and all |
|
|
those who have mourned his passing; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Allen |
|
|
Place. |
