R E S O L U T I O N

|
WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Robert |
|
|
Gomez Rivera Sr., who passed away on May 6, 2015, at the age of 67; |
|
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The son of Alfredo and Alvina Gomez Rivera, Robert |
|
|
Rivera was born in Sweetwater on September 25, 1947; he attended |
|
|
McMurry College on a football scholarship and earned his bachelor's |
|
|
degree in education; on August 1, 1970, he married his high school |
|
|
sweetheart, the former Cecilia Alvidrez Gutierrez, and they became |
|
|
the proud parents of four sons; over the years, he enjoyed guiding |
|
|
his children through school and assisting them in their Boy Scout |
|
|
and youth sports activities, and he was ever a source of wise |
|
|
counsel; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Rivera established a long and rewarding career |
|
|
as an educator that spanned nearly four decades; during his early |
|
|
years as a teacher, he supplemented his income by selling cars |
|
|
part-time, and he also pursued graduate studies at North Texas |
|
|
State University, earning his master's degree in 1975; he taught |
|
|
and coached athletics in Mesquite and Fort Worth before becoming an |
|
|
academic counselor for the Southeast Campus of Tarrant County |
|
|
College, where he was employed until his retirement in 2009; he was |
|
|
an influential mentor to numerous people in all of his positions and |
|
|
earned the lasting respect of his colleagues and supervisors; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A kind man with a wonderful sense of humor, Robert |
|
|
Rivera will be deeply missed, but cherished memories of time spent |
|
|
in his company will long endure in the hearts of his family and |
|
|
friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Gomez Rivera |
|
|
Sr. and extend sincere condolences to his loved ones: to his wife, |
|
|
Cecilia Rivera; to his sons, Robert Gabriel Rivera, Christopher |
|
|
Rivera and his wife, Wendy, Alfredo Rivera and his wife, Erica, and |
|
|
Conrad Rivera; to his grandsons, Christopher, Alfredo, and Pedro |
|
|
Rivera; to his sisters, Nelda Gonzales and her husband, Cruz, and |
|
|
Nancy Rivera; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be |
|
|
it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert |
|
|
Gomez Rivera Sr. |
