R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of the varsity Mariachi Toros de Plata |
|
|
and the junior varsity Mariachi Toros Azules from Mission Veterans |
|
|
Memorial High School have brought great honor to their school and |
|
|
community during the 2014-2015 academic year; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In February 2015, the Mariachi Toros de Plata |
|
|
traveled to San Antonio to participate in the Mexican American |
|
|
School Board Association Texas High School Finals Competition |
|
|
against mariachi ensembles from across the Lone Star State; the |
|
|
members of the group displayed remarkable musicianship in front of |
|
|
a panel of judges, finishing in ninth place in Class 5A and becoming |
|
|
the first mariachi ensemble from a Mission CISD school to advance to |
|
|
the finals; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Toros de Plata and Toros Azules subsequently |
|
|
earned acclaim at the Mariachi 7 Leguas Noche de Estrellas Contest |
|
|
on April 4, outperforming other talented ensembles to win the 5A |
|
|
varsity and junior varsity titles; they each went on to participate |
|
|
in the Texas A&M University--Kingsville Viva El Mariachi |
|
|
Extravaganza on April 25, where they both captured Division 1 |
|
|
Superior ratings; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The members of these two outstanding ensembles have |
|
|
demonstrated great dedication in their pursuit of their musical |
|
|
education, and it is a pleasure to recognize them for their |
|
|
exceptional achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Mission Veterans |
|
|
Memorial High School Mariachi Toros de Plata and Mariachi Toros |
|
|
Azules on their many accomplishments and extend to all those |
|
|
associated with the groups sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
|
be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the ensembles as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
