R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Joan Cawood Nivens of Midland passed away on May 6,
  2015, at the age of 85, leaving her circle of family and friends to
  treasure their many happy memories of time spent in her company; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Topeka, Kansas, in 1929, the former Joan
  Cawood moved with her family to Roswell, New Mexico, during her
  youth; after graduating from high school, she enjoyed a successful
  career as a draftsman with Humble Oil; a lifelong learner, she took
  classes while working as well as in her retirement and derived great
  joy from her studies; and
         WHEREAS, This cherished woman shared a rewarding union with
  her husband, Rolf Eugene Nivens, until his passing, and she was the
  devoted mother of a daughter, Gena; she was affectionately known as
  "Jo Jo" to her four grandchildren, and she lavished them with her
  love and support; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Nivens spent more than 30 years as a resident
  of Midland, which remained her home in her heart even after she
  moved to Austin in 2013 to be closer to her loved ones; actively
  involved in her church, she taught Sunday school and prepared meals
  for the church men's group, and she also found fulfillment in
  volunteering with Meals on Wheels and helping out others in the
  community; she was beloved for her sweet nature and vibrant smile,
  and some of her favorite memories were of meeting each week with her
  close friends for coffee; and
         WHEREAS, Joan Nivens led a rich and purposeful life centered
  around her faith, her family, and her community, and she will long
  be remembered with admiration and deep affection by all who were
  privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Joan Cawood Nivens
  and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
  daughter, Gena Nivens Keller, and her husband, Harrison; to her
  grandchildren, William, Elizabeth, Emily, and Mary Katherine; to
  her sister, Virginia Edwards; and to her other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it so do in memory of Joan Cawood
  Nivens.
