R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Charities that work to lift children out of poverty
  in our nation and around the world will benefit from the first Red
  Nose Day to be held in the United States, an observance scheduled
  for May 21, 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Red Nose Day started in the United Kingdom, where,
  for the past 30 years, the fund-raising organization Comic Relief
  UK has raised more than £1 billion by bringing people together for
  fun and laughter; and
         WHEREAS, The first Red Nose Day USA is a program of Comic
  Relief, Inc., an independent sister organization of the British
  group; people across the nation are encouraged to do something
  funny at home, school, or work to raise money for charity, and the
  day will culminate in a star-studded, three-hour entertainment
  special on the NBC television network; and
         WHEREAS, Walgreens is the exclusive retailer of the first Red
  Nose Day, and since April 17, Walgreens and Duane Reade pharmacies
  across the nation have been selling red clown noses for a dollar
  apiece, with the proceeds going to the Red Nose Day Fund; and
         WHEREAS, Nonprofit organizations that will benefit from Red
  Nose Day include the Boys and Girls Clubs of America, charity:
  water, the Children's Health Fund, Feeding America, Gavi, the
  Vaccine Alliance, the Global Fund, LIFT, the National Council of La
  Raza, the National Urban League, Oxfam America, Save the Children,
  and United Way; and
         WHEREAS, Bringing Americans of all ages and backgrounds
  together in joy and laughter, this fun and festive event is helping
  to create positive change in the world through the power of
  entertainment; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize May 21, 2015, as Red Nose Day in Texas.
