R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Books are the Beginning is dedicated to promoting |
|
|
childhood literacy for students in Texas and around the globe; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Established in 2006, Books are the Beginning is a |
|
|
nonprofit organization based in Texas that works to build libraries |
|
|
and provide books, school supplies, and professional teacher |
|
|
development to schools in need; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Books are the Beginning has served young Texans in |
|
|
Dallas, Houston, and San Marcos, as well as students in Uganda, |
|
|
Kenya, and other parts of Africa; the program is currently working |
|
|
to expand its reach to children in China; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For nearly a decade, Books are the Beginning has |
|
|
helped students to acquire a lifelong love of reading and learning |
|
|
that will benefit them well into the future, and it is indeed |
|
|
deserving of special recognition for its efforts; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend Books are the Beginning for its |
|
|
contributions to childhood literacy and extend to all those |
|
|
associated with the organization sincere best wishes for continued |
|
|
success with their important work; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
