R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board is |
|
celebrating the 75th anniversary of its founding in 2015; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board |
|
was established by the Texas Legislature in 1939 in order to address |
|
the agricultural practices and problems of wind and water erosion |
|
that led to the Dust Bowl devastation of Texas and the Great Plains |
|
in the 1930s; and |
|
WHEREAS, This landmark legislation called for the creation of |
|
soil and water conservation districts; the initiative was designed |
|
to be controlled by farmers and ranchers on a voluntary basis and to |
|
implement measures that best suited the specific needs of |
|
individual landowners; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, the board administers a number of key |
|
programs that provide technical and financial assistance to |
|
landowners and land managers; among the results of these efforts |
|
are enhanced soil resources, more sustainable agriculture, |
|
improved water quality, and higher-quality wildlife habitat; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board |
|
has had a profound impact on the preservation and protection of our |
|
state's natural resources, and it is truly deserving of special |
|
recognition for its exceptional work; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding |
|
of the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and extend to |
|
its management and staff best wishes for continued success with |
|
their important work; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the board as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
