R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, With the passing of Charlotte Koehler Flynn on April
  19, 2015, at the age of 96, the State of Texas lost a remarkable
  citizen who devoted her life to serving the greater good; and
         WHEREAS, Born in St. Louis on March 28, 1919, to Charlotte
  and Arnold Koehler, the former Charlotte Koehler was joined in
  matrimony to William Flynn on July 11, 1941, and the couple nurtured
  a rewarding union that spanned more than six and a half decades
  until his passing; over the course of their marriage, they became
  the parents of three children, Liz, Mary Lou, and Greg, and their
  family later grew to include two granddaughters, Kathryn and
  Charlotte; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Flynn graduated with a bachelor's degree in
  nursing from Washington University in St. Louis in 1941 and
  subsequently worked as an operating room supervisor in Panama; she
  and her family frequently moved in support of her husband's career
  in the U.S. Navy, and in 1970, they put down roots in Austin; and
         WHEREAS, A staunch advocate for social justice, Mrs. Flynn
  championed rights for youth, women, the elderly, the poor, and the
  disenfranchised; she was a founding member of the Austin chapter of
  the Gray Panthers, and she greatly benefited the national
  organization through her service as chair in the 1990s and as a
  spokesperson for its National Campaign for Universal Health Care;
  moreover, she was active with the Texas Coalition for Juvenile
  Justice and the Austin Peace and Justice Coalition, and she was
  involved in the Girl Scouts for more than 35 years; in her leisure
  time, she enjoyed printmaking, and she was known for giving refuge
  to deer, birds, and creatures of all kinds who found their way to
  her loving home; and
         WHEREAS, Charlotte Flynn was a woman of strength, compassion,
  and deeply held ideals who remained engaged in the world throughout
  her life and who found joy and inspiration in helping others; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charlotte Koehler
  Flynn and extend sincere condolences to the members of her family:
  to her children, Liz Flynn, Mary Lou Flynn-DuPart and her husband,
  Mike, and Greg Flynn and his wife, Alicia; to her sister, Barbara
  Maschmeier; to her granddaughters, Kathryn and Charlotte Flynn; and
  to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charlotte
  Flynn.
