R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Robin Burke has been selected to serve as captain of
  the 2016 United States Curtis Cup team; and
         WHEREAS, Established in 1932 and held every two years, the
  Curtis Cup is an international team competition featuring talented
  amateur women golfers from the United States and Great Britain and
  Ireland; Ms. Burke will guide eight of the country's top amateur
  players at the 2016 contest held at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club in
  Dublin, where the U.S. team will take on its European counterparts
  for the right to take home the Curtis Cup trophy; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Burke has enjoyed a successful career as an
  amateur golfer, having competed in three U.S. Women's Opens and
  dozens of other United States Golf Association tournaments; she
  finished as runner-up at the 1997 U.S. Women's Amateur, and she has
  reached the semifinals of the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur on three
  separate occasions; moreover, she has claimed numerous tournament
  championships at the Southern Women's Amateur, Texas Women's
  Amateur, and Greater Houston Women's City Amateur; a vital member
  of the Team USA 1998 Curtis Cup-winning squad, she joins an elite
  list of former players who have also served as captain; and
         WHEREAS, Highly respected within the golfing community,
  Ms. Burke is the wife of two-time major champion and World Golf Hall
  of Famer Jack Burke Jr.; moreover, she serves as vice president of
  Champions Golf Club, which she owns with her husband in Houston; and
         WHEREAS, Robin Burke is an accomplished amateur golfer who
  has contributed greatly to the rich golfing tradition of the Lone
  Star State, and she is indeed deserving of this prestigious new
  role; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Robin Burke on being named captain
  of the 2016 USA Curtis Cup team and extend to her sincere best
  wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Burke as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
