R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The boys' basketball team of Mumford High School
  proved itself one of the finest in Texas by winning the University
  Interscholastic League 1A Division 1 state championship on March 8,
  2014; and
         WHEREAS, With their title-game victory at the Frank Erwin
  Center in Austin, the Mustangs closed out an unforgettable season
  in which they captured the District 25-1A title and compiled an
  impressive overall record of 39 wins and just one loss; in the
  opening rounds of the playoffs, Mumford scored double-digit
  victories over Sabinal, Thorndale, Port Aransas, and Snook High
  Schools to punch its ticket to the state tournament for the third
  consecutive season; and
         WHEREAS, The Mustangs continued their fine play against Smyer
  High School in the state semifinals, rebounding from a six-point
  deficit at halftime to come away with a 59-48 win; matched up with
  Muenster High School in the 1A Division 1 final, the Mumford players
  found themselves trailing after the opening frame, but they
  answered with a 22-11 run in the second quarter to take a lead at the
  game's midway point; the team extended its advantage in the third
  quarter, before finally securing the state crown with a 64-57
  triumph; leading the way was LaKendric Hyson, who took home the
  game's most valuable player honor after posting a 19-point,
  11-rebound performance, and he was joined on the All-Tournament
  Team by Aubrie King and Dion Mack; and
         WHEREAS, The Mumford squad also received essential
  contributions throughout the year from the other members of the
  roster: Braxton Haynes, Frank Franco, Corey Powell, Tyler Johnson,
  Seth Smitherman, Nick Scamardo, Justin Shannon, and James Morris;
  these determined athletes were ably guided by head coach Chris
  Sodek and assistant coaches Alvie King, Daniel Moore, and Marcus
  Sodek; and
         WHEREAS, Winning a state title is the culmination of
  countless hours of hard work and an enduring commitment to
  excellence, and the members of the 2014 Mustangs basketball team
  will forever relish their memories of this outstanding achievement;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Mumford High School boys'
  basketball team on winning the 2014 UIL 1A Division 1 state
  championship and extend to the team's players, coaches, and staff
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
