R E S O L U T I O N
 
         WHEREAS, Albert Totah of Victoria closed his restaurant The
  Corral on May 3, 2015, drawing to a close more than six decades of
  operation; and
         WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Victoria, Mr. Totah worked in
  his parents' café while he was still in high school, and following
  his studies at The University of Texas at Austin, he returned to
  Victoria to open Totah's Fine Foods with two of his cousins; and
         WHEREAS, After serving as a mess sergeant in the U.S. Army
  during the Korean War, Mr. Totah returned to Victoria again, and on
  December 12, 1952, he became a partner in The Corral; a year later,
  he and his wife, Gwendolyn, bought the restaurant, and in 1956, he
  installed a neon sign of an Indian shooting an arrow out front,
  which soon became a local icon; he remodeled the restaurant in 1963,
  and in 1974 he added a take-out window; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Totah has been a leader in his community for
  many years, serving on the Victoria Chamber of Commerce as well as
  the city's buildings and standards commission and the housing
  authority; in 1989, he was inducted into the Texas Restaurant
  Association Hall of Honor; and
         WHEREAS, This local landmark has been a popular gathering
  spot for several generations, and it is a privilege to honor
  Mr. Totah and his staff for the high regard The Corral enjoyed in
  the Victoria community for 62 years; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the closing of The Corral restaurant
  in Victoria and extend to owner Albert Totah sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Totah as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
