R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Sandy M. Herrera, a participant in the McClendon |
|
Scholars Program, has provided valuable support as a legislative |
|
intern in the office of State Representative Dawnna Dukes during |
|
the 84th Texas Legislature; and |
|
WHEREAS, Created in 2004, the McClendon Scholars Program, |
|
which is also known as The University of Texas at San Antonio |
|
Legislative Scholars Program, is a collaborative effort between |
|
State Representative Ruth Jones McLendon and the UTSA Institute for |
|
Law and Public Affairs; the initiative gives students who have an |
|
interest in public policy the opportunity to work as interns at the |
|
State Capitol during legislative sessions; and |
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Herrera is a senior at The University of Texas |
|
at San Antonio, where she expects to graduate with a bachelor's |
|
degree in political science in May 2015; she has associate's |
|
degrees in paralegal studies from Virginia College and in |
|
government from Austin Community College, and she has worked in two |
|
law offices as well as for the Railroad Commission of Texas and the |
|
Travis County District Clerk's Office; she has been a senator in the |
|
UTSA Student Government Association, and she is active in the UTSA |
|
Young Democrats and Texas College Democrats; and |
|
WHEREAS, While gaining important experience in the field of |
|
public service as a member of Representative Duke's staff, Sandy |
|
Herrera has contributed to the workings of state government |
|
firsthand and learned more about the legislative process and the |
|
issues facing citizens of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Sandy M. Herrera for her work as a |
|
McLendon Scholar and legislative intern in the office of State |
|
Representative Dawnna Dukes and extend to her sincere best wishes |
|
for continued success in all her endeavors; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Herrera as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
